After the pre-season tests which took place in Spain from October 24 to 27, the ABT CUPRA Formula E Team is now preparing for the 2024 season. While the first race is scheduled in Mexico on January 13, 2024, the The team first came together to test at the Valencia circuit and lay a solid foundation for the championship.
These tests were also marked by Lucas di Grassi’s first outing in racing conditions at the wheel of the ABT CUPRA Formula E car. With a wealth of experience, the Brazilian driver is eager to make his contribution and help ABT CUPRA FE to achieve its objectives for the 2024 season.
“It’s great to be part of the ABT and CUPRA family. We were on the same page from the start and we worked hard both on and off the track. We obviously still have a lot of work to do, but I am sure that we will be very well prepared when we go to Mexico for the first race,” said ABT CUPRA Formula E Team driver Lucas di Grassi.
These pre-season tests in Valencia allowed ABT CUPRA FE to prepare for the 2024 racing calendar. The team took advantage of these tests to meet up after the break to gain valuable feedback on the performance of their cars. Likewise, the drivers had the opportunity to experience their first sensations on the track.
“The official pre-season tests are always something very special, because the tension is rising and there is already a competitive atmosphere. We had the opportunity to test a lot of things on the track, including the new racing format. In addition, it is also a meeting with the media and photographers. It was all really a lot of fun,” explained Nico Müller, driver of the ABT CUPRA Formula E team.
Getting ready for the new season
The tests carried out in Valencia showed that the team and the cars are ready for the new season. The Formula E cars performed as expected, despite a break in the sessions on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday. Indeed, a fire in one of the circuit’s garages briefly interrupted the testing sessions. Following this incident, Adrien Tambay, CUPRA ambassador, was unable to participate in the tests reserved for beginners as was initially planned.
Testing sessions continued as normal on Thursday afternoon, with team drivers Lucas di Grassi and Nico Müller successfully completing several laps of the circuit.
The Valencia tests mark the start of an intense preparation phase before the season opener in Mexico.
