Alpine presents the A110 Pikes Peak, soon to conquer American summits
Alpine continues its inexorable rise by entering the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb for the first time in its history, the legendary American hill climb.
Preparations are accelerating and Alpine is now revealing the first images of its A110 specially designed for the event.
The first laps of this unique model took place last week in Lurcy-Lévis. Two new test sessions will be carried out soon in the south of France before heading to Colorado Springs.
Since announcing its participation in one of the most legendary hill climb races on the planet, Alpine and Signatech have continued their intense work behind the scenes to meet the challenge that awaits them on June 25, 2023.
AN A110 MORE EXTREME THAN EVER
Intended to master the subtleties of this 19.93 km climb towards the clouds, the Alpine A110 Pikes Peak is a true work of art in terms of its aerodynamics and its engine block to meet the challenge of Pikes Peak. Thanks to close and fruitful collaboration between the teams of the Alpine design office guided by Raphaël Linari (design manager) and those of Signatech led by Lionel Chevalier (technical director) and François Letort (project manager), the car, more extreme than ever, has transformed into a real racing beast.
Among the strong elements, we find extremely marked splitters and deflectors on the ends of the shield, without forgetting the imposing rear wing to generate downforce in the 156 turns of the race. The radical work carried out on the Alpine A110R also benefits it, through the side skirts and the diffuser of this unique model, while an intake inlet appears on the roof to supply air to the engine carried at almost of 500 horsepower. Specific work was also carried out on the weight in order to lower the mass of the model to only 950 kilograms.
The designers of the brand with the A arrow have thus fully assumed their choice of extreme, demonstration and visual impact while retaining certain original proportions so that the car remains eligible for the Time Attack 1 category. This is reflected in particular by the integration of a “Le Mans type” shark fin on the rear window extending to literally cut off the imposing rear wing.
The light signature has also been the subject of a more aggressive treatment. The two circles at the front give way to two extremely thin bars, as if cut by laser. At the same time, the light functions of the rear lights have been offset in three vertical segments on the fins and the central dorsal, such as a nod to Le Mans while reinforcing the perceived width of the model, underlined by other details at the rear. like specific rims.
THE A110 PIKES PEAK READY TO TAKE THE NEXT GEAR
This unique Alpine will soon take on the American peaks with the ambition of breaking records. After having completed its first laps on April 25 and 26 at Lurcy-Lévis, the model will welcome its designated driver for Pikes Peak, Raphaël Astier, for the first time at the wheel of the car in its final configuration next week.
The winner of the 2022 FIA R-GT Cup with the A110 Rally will complete a first session first in Drôme, then in Val Thorens. Already with four starts in the event, the Frenchman will then fly with the team to Colorado Springs, where they will work on their final preparations for June 25, 2023.
See you soon to find out even more about this new Alpine challenge!
Raphaël Linari, Alpine design manager
« The A110 Pikes Peak reveals the wildest side of this iconic car. It is already agile and light by design, but with its specific aero and extreme proportions, it transforms into a real racing beast. This legendary event was an endless source of inspiration to push our creativity and enhance the A110 while integrating the constraints linked to performance. Thanks to close collaboration with the Signatech technical teams, this project was able to come to fruition within a particularly short time frame. We can’t wait to see our creation challenge America’s power monsters on their home soil. I would like to thank Jun Okazaki and Victor Sfiazof, the two designers who accompanied me to refine the design of this car down to the smallest detail. Not to mention the fantastic collaboration with the Signatech team, as expert as they are passionate. »
François Letort, Alpine A110 Pikes Peak project manager
« The Alpine A110 Pikes Peak has pushed the limits of our imagination, even more than anything we could have imagined at the start of the project. It was a pleasure to collaborate with the Alpine design office, with whom we quickly moved in the same direction thanks to our in-house skills and our ability to be extremely responsive. Our core business lies in this strength of proposal and we have also been able to rely on a network of local suppliers and subcontractors who listen to our requests. The first two days of testing went very well. The Alpine A110 Pikes Peak achieved all the first objectives assigned to it, a tour de force in a particularly short time frame. We are therefore proud to be able to lift the veil on a spectacular model both visually and in terms of its performance. We are all looking forward to taking on the legendary challenge that awaits us!»
