nouvelle PEUGEOT E-408

ALLURE: With its fastback silhouette and all-electric powertrain, the E-408 is a unique offering in the market.

EMOTION: The pleasure of driving an all-electric PEUGEOT is enhanced by the i-Cockpit® and its integrated trip planner.

EXCELLENCE: The E-408 completes PEUGEOT’s electric vehicle line-up, the most extensive of any mainstream manufacturer in Europe, with 12 electric passenger cars and light commercial vehicles.

By introducing the 408 in June 2022, PEUGEOT brought a bold and distinctive fastback design to the forefront of the C-segment. Unexpected and striking, the 408 stands out with its sleek, feline posture, dynamic lines, elevated driving position, and refined design, down to the smallest details.

The plug-in hybrid versions were the first steps in the 408’s electrification journey. Earlier this year, the 48V HYBRID 136 e-DCS6 joined the range. Now, the new E-408 takes this strategy further with a zero-emission powertrain, offering 210hp (157kW) combined with a 58.2kWh (usable) NMC battery.

The launch of the E-408, with orders opening on 5th November, marks the latest step in PEUGEOT’s mission to become the leading mainstream EV brand in Europe. The new PEUGEOT E-408 will be manufactured at the Mulhouse plant and benefits from the PEUGEOT Allure Care Warranty for up to 8 years/100,000 miles – the longest of any European manufacturer.

ALLURE: AN UNEXPECTED AND DYNAMIC FASTBACK DESIGN

The innovative and unexpected fastback design perfectly complements the modernity of the new PEUGEOT E-408, a platform designed for full electrification without sacrificing style, dynamism, or interior comfort.

With an overall length of 4.69m and a width of 1.85m (with the mirrors folded), the E-408 utilises the multi-energy EMP2 (Efficient Modular Platform), which boasts a wheelbase of 2.79m. These generous dimensions allows the battery to be placed beneath the car’s underbody, under the floor between the wheels, thereby preserving interior space while lowering the E-408’s centre of gravity, ensuring dynamic road handling that makes driving a pleasure.

This architecture brings together the sleek elegance of a fastback, the road performance of a premium saloon, and a slightly elevated driving position that enhances everyday comfort, safety, and overall enjoyment.

A feline posture

With its wide tracks, 1.59m at the front and 1.60m at the rear, the E-408 is firmly planted on the road. Despite its elevated stance, this model maintains a sleek and sporty profile thanks to its limited height of 1.49m, improving its aerodynamics.

The feline character of the E-408 is emphasised by the sharp, distinctive treatment of its body surfaces, particularly noticeable towards the rear with the ‘cat’s ears’, boot lid, and the contours of the wings, creating striking facets that play with light.

The side body and wheel arch protections extend into a sturdy black rear bumper which cuts across the body colour diagonally, accentuating the dynamic look of the rear. The large 19-inch graphite wheels, featuring an innovative geometric design, are paired with 225-50 R19 tyres, offering very low rolling resistance (A+ class).

A modern identity

The body-coloured grille of the E-408 dematerialises by seamlessly blending into the overall shape of the bumper, marking a generational shift, and ushering in the electrification era of the PEUGEOT range.

The brand’s identity is more prominent than ever, thanks to the intricate lighting design. At the front, advanced LED technology enables very slim yet highly effective headlights, defining the distinct look of the E-408 with a truly PEUGEOT expression. The light signature extends downward with two LED strips shaped like fangs plunging into the bumper. At the rear, PEUGEOT’s identity is expressed through the iconic three-claw LED taillights, angled for an even more dynamic appearance.

The new PEUGEOT E-408 is available in five colours: Okenite White, Obsession Blue, Selenium Grey, Elixir Red, and Nera Black.

EMOTION: MORE THAN EVER, PLEASURE DRIVES PROGRESS

With generous power and instant torque, the all-electric drive of the E-408 delivers pure driving pleasure. This experience is further enhanced by the PEUGEOT i-Cockpit® and the vehicle’s road handling, staying true to long-standing PEUGEOT tradition.

EXCELLENCE: A CONSTANT QUEST FOR EFFICIENCY, SAFETY, AND QUALITY

Efficiency was at the heart of the PEUGEOT team’s concerns throughout the design and development of the E-408.

The aerodynamics of the new PEUGEOT E-408 have been meticulously designed, with attention given to the bumpers, front air intake, underbody panels, and lower rear guards for the front wheels. Additionally, the new E-408 features a specific underbody that creates an aerodynamic flat floor, resulting in a low electricity consumption of 4.09miles/kWh and a WLTP combined range of up to 281 miles as per the WLTP cycle.

The E-408 is equipped with a high-voltage battery that offers 58.2kWh of usable capacity. Utilising NMC 811 technology, comprising 80% Nickel, 10% Manganese, and 10% Cobalt, it boasts increased energy density with 18 onboard modules. This allows the new E-408 to achieve a range of 281 miles in the WLTP mixed cycle, catering to the needs of most C-segment customers, whose typical daily mileage is under 27 miles (NCBS Market Data, FY23 – HY24).

Regenerative braking contributes to a smoother driving experience. Using the paddles located behind the compact steering wheel, the driver can easily activate regenerative braking across three level, with the latter two levels also activating the rear brake lights. The left paddle increases regeneration while the right decreases it.

The regeneration levels are as follows:

  • Low (-0.6 m/s²), which mimics the sensations of a conventional vehicle.
  • Moderate (-1.3 m/s²), providing increased deceleration upon releasing the accelerator.
  • Increased (-2.0 m/s²), which offers maximum deceleration when the accelerator is released, thus maximising regeneration.

The driver can choose from three drive modes based on their preferences. Normal mode is the default, setting power at 190hp (140kW) and torque at 300Nm, striking an ideal balance between dynamism and range. Sport mode (210hp/157kW and 345Nm) is available for peak performance and activates automatically during kick down. ECO mode (170hp/ 125kW and 270 Nm) prioritises range while still providing driving pleasure.

As standard, the new E-408 is equipped with a heat pump, as well as heated seats and a heated steering wheel, optimising passenger thermal comfort while conserving battery energy.

Charging is simple and efficient. For AC fast charging, the new E-408 includes an 11kW three-phase onboard charger as standard. For DC rapid charging, the E-408 accepts power of up to 120kW, allowing the battery to charge from 20% to 80% in just over 30 minutes (under nominal battery temperature conditions), recovering 62 miles of range in just over 10 minutes. To optimise charging, the driver can programme the lower and upper thresholds via the central screen, for example, setting a minimum charge of 20% and a maximum of 80%.

Something for everyone

A plug-in hybrid powertrain is also available for the PEUGEOT 408. The PLUG-IN HYBRID 225 e-EAT8 combines a 180hp (132kW) turbo engine with an 81kW electric motor, paired with the e-EAT8 eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The plug-in hybrid version is equipped with a lithium-ion battery that has a capacity of 12.4kWh. There are two types of single-phase onboard chargers available, a standard 3.7kW charger and an optional 7.4kW charger.

Estimated charging times are as follows:

  • From a 7.4kW AC charger (32 A) using the 7.4kW single-phase on-board charger, the vehicle can be fully charged in 1 hour and 40 minutes.

From a reinforced socket (14 A) using the 3.7kW single-phase on-board charger, charging takes approximately 3 hours and 55 minutes.

In addition, a self-charging hybrid engine is available for the PEUGEOT 408. The HYBRID 136 e-DCS6 combines a 136hp (100kW) turbo engine with a 48V battery and is equipped with a six-speed e-DCS6 automatic gearbox.

This PEUGEOT 48V HYBRID system features a new-generation 136hp petrol engine paired with a dual-clutch six-speed gearbox that incorporates an electric motor. With a battery that recharges while driving, this technology provides extra torque at low revs and achieves a reduction of up to 15% in fuel consumption (54.3mpg in the WLTP mixed cycle). In urban driving conditions, the new 408 Hybrid 136 e-DCS6 can operate in 100% electric, zero-emission mode for up to 50% of the time.
