Opel unveils the new Opel Corsa
Bestseller for city cars : Opel unveils the new Opel Corsa
Small and full of character: Opel Vizor at the front and new rear design
Digital and intuitive: dashboard based on the Snapdragon® Cockpit platform from Qualcomm Technologies, Inc1; new infotainment system with large 10-inch color touchscreen
Even more piercing lighting: new Intelli-Lux LED® matrix headlights
Corsa Electric: new electric motor with 115 kW/156 hp and range of 402 kilometers (WLTP)
Hybrid for everyone: the new Opel Corsa is the first Opel equipped with a 48-volt hybrid system
The new Opel Corsa arrives this year. Even more assertive, even more emotional, even more intuitive to use and equipped with all new electric and hybrid engines, the newcomer marks a strong evolution of Opel’s traditional proposition in the city car segment.
First of all, the new Corsa seduces with its new design. It adopts the brand’s characteristic front, the Opel Vizor, and the Corsa lettering proudly located in the center of the rear hatch. Furthermore, the German city car allows you to drive even more relaxed thanks to the addition of new technologies. As an option, the new Corsa offers an all-digital dashboard based on the Snapdragon Cockpit platform from Qualcomm Technologies1: it is enriched with new software and a color touch screen of up to 10 inches. The glare-free Intelli-Lux LED® matrix lighting, which the Corsa introduced in the city car segment in 2019, also benefits from improvements that make it even more efficient: it now has 14 LED segments. The latest iteration of the best-selling city car also benefits from high tech under the hood. The Corsa Electric now has more power and an improved battery allowing a range of 402 kilometers according to the WLTP2 standard. Other engines are also new. The Corsa is the first Opel available in a hybrid version with a 48-volt system. The new Corsa therefore offers its customers a choice of engines ranging from 100% electric to hybrid, including particularly fuel-efficient thermal engines. An unrivaled offering in this segment.
“The Opel Corsa has been a bestseller for over 40 years. For the past two years it has also been the best-selling city car in Germany and, in 2021, the best-selling car in the UK. For us, this success rewards our work and constitutes additional motivation to do even better in the future. The new Corsa is even more modern, even more emotional and better. With its remarkable design, cutting-edge equipment from higher segments and new electric and hybrid technologies, we want to meet customer needs and show what can be expected from a city car today,” comments Florian Huettl , CEO of Opel.
Assertive, sober, sensual: the new Opel Corsa adopts a new design with the Opel Vizor
Perfect proportions and careful bodywork down to the smallest detail, all carried by a line full of personality remaining sober: this is the new Opel Corsa. The designers have made the Blitz city car even more modern and elegant. The most striking element is the iconic Opel Vizor, the brand’s characteristic front end that all new Opels adopt. The black strip covers the front of the Corsa and integrates into a single element the vehicle’s grille, the LED headlights and in the center, the Opel lightning bolt logo. Depending on the trim level, the brand logo on the front and rear is presented in black or matte satin silver. The fictitious air intakes in the lower part of the front bumper are larger and more pronounced than before, which allows the Corsa to establish its silhouette even better on the road.
The profile of the new Corsa will also impress with its characteristic lines. The “drilled” quarter pillar appears to allow the roof (also available in black depending on trim level) to float above the vehicle. The rear part also asserts its graphic appearance: the Corsa nameplate now appears – as we saw for the first time a few months ago on the limited series “Opel Corsa 40” – in the center of the tailgate. And the Grafik Gray paint, available for the first time on the Corsa, allows the newcomer to shine with new splendor.
Intuitive and focused on the essentials: the new cockpit design
Thanks to numerous new features, the Corsa also benefits from a modern and pleasant atmosphere in the cabin. The new seat designs as well as the new design of the gear lever and steering wheel contribute to this. However, the strong point – both visual and technical – lies in the all-digital dashboard (optional) which is equipped with a new infotainment system. Qualcomm Technologies’ integrated Snapdragon Cockpit platform1 features enhanced graphics, multimedia, computer vision and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. It thus provides a more integrated, contextual and constantly adaptable cockpit system, capable of evolving to meet passenger preferences.
As with the development of the latest generation Astra, the “Detox to the max” principle was applied: the navigation system offers connected services, natural voice recognition “Hey Opel” and “over-the-top” updates. -air “. In addition, the displays on the 10-inch color touchscreen of the navigation and multimedia system and the driver information display have been made even clearer, so that all important information can be viewed in a fraction of second. The newcomer has another ace up her sleeve. For the first time, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible smartphones can be connected to the model’s multimedia systems and recharged, both wirelessly.
Even more striking: Intelli-Lux LED® matrix lighting with 14 LED segments
Since 2019, the non-glare adaptive matrix lighting Intelli-Lux LED® has shown how Opel can make innovation accessible to as many people as possible by equipping a mainstream city car like the Corsa with it. Engineers are constantly working on new developments and the new Corsa benefits from this approach. A total of 14 LED segments, instead of 8, individually controlled, ensure an exceptional driving experience. The brightness is remarkable and the beam is “cut” with even more precision than before to avoid dazzling other road users.
Many other state-of-the-art assistance systems make driving and maneuvering more relaxed. The offer ranges from the new high-resolution panoramic reversing camera to adaptive cruise control, including the speed limiter or forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection.
More powerful, more economical: improved battery for the new Opel Corsa Electric and new engine
Opel will become a fully electric brand in Europe by 2028. And 12 models are already electrified today. The Corsa was the pioneer in the democratization of 100% electric engines within the Opel range. It is therefore no surprise that the Corsa-e won the “Golden Steering Wheel” in 20203. Driving 100% electric in the Corsa means driving without emissions and without having to compromise on everyday practicality. and driving pleasure. The new Corsa Electric takes another step forward: it offers more choice, more power, an improved battery and longer range.
The new Opel Corsa Electric will be available with two electric drive options: the city car bestseller will be offered with an output of 100 kW/136 hp and a further improved range of up to 357 kilometers2, but also with an output of 115 kW/156 hp and a range of up to 402 kilometers according to WLTP2. The Corsa Electric is not only highly efficient – with its electric battery and 260 Nm of torque – it also guarantees pure driving pleasure in all situations. And the Corsa Electric can be recharged quickly: via a fast charging station, the battery recovers 80% of its total capacity in just 30 minutes (20-80%4).
Other new features within the engine range will allow you to enjoy even more responsible driving pleasure: for the first time, Opel will offer the possibility of having a hybrid engine with a 48-volt system. The 74 kW/100 hp and 100 kW/136 hp engines are equipped with a new dual-clutch automatic transmission. In the future, they will complement a vast range of particularly economical engines, ranging from ultra-efficient thermal engines to the 100% electric Corsa Electric, thus consistently continuing the electrification of the brand.
